Webster dictionary defines Integrity as, “A quality or state of being complete or undivided.” So, with that in mind, what is the first thought that comes to mind when you hear ‘Operational Integrity’? It’s probably something along the lines of, “Operations that are complete and undivided” right? For me, I see operational integrity as a state in which every aspect of the business comes together, coexisting in a beautifully harmonious synergy in order to create an organization that is highly reliable, efficient, and effective.
How can you achieve operational integrity within an organization? Here are the top two ways to create operational integrity in your organization.
Having everyone understand what the goals of the company are and having everyone on the same page helps the team to all be equally motivated to work together and finish the work that is required in order to achieve the goals.
Every aspect of the business needs to be able to communicate their outcomes with everyone so that there a transparency between departments. This transparency allows contributions made to be seen and a common understanding among the staff. It’s similar to sharing a goal, but rather than just everyone believing in the same thing, they all understand it the same way as well.
As a company grows, understanding the importance of operational integrity becomes much more prominent. Growth in the company means that there will be much more expected out of the company, hence the need for operational integrity becomes vital. Disorganization and being split in the later days of growth is not something that customers and potential investors want to see. The organization needs to move as one and needs to work with optimal efficiency in order to succeed onto higher levels of growth. Once operational integrity is harnessed to its full capabilities, any organization is able to thrive evolve into whatever the end goal is.
