Other than the obvious, spending money at their business, there are lots of other ways to support your favorite “mom and pop business owners.” Here are some of them:
Share Their Posts – Many small business owners are super active on social media. They post. They Share. They Tweet. They do all the social media things. It doesn’t take long to share their posts to your circle of friends too. It probably means more to the small business owner than you know.
Check In When Visiting – When you visit them, be sure to “Check In” on Facebook or Instagram. This helps Google recognize them as a more established company. It helps others see the business. And it makes the business owner feel great!
Leave a Review – On social media pages, often times business owners allow their customers to leave a review. Had a great experience? Leave a solid review! Was the experience a little less than expected? Leave a review and give the business owner a chance to “make it right.”
Tag Them in Social Media Posts – If you’re scrolling through social media and find an interesting article that related to a small business owner in your area, you can share the article and then tag the small business owner. This also increases their exposure.
Tell Your Friends About Them – While many people can do the above easily, you could also go “old school,” and tell your friends about the business owner. “My favorite place for that is _______. And, did you know the owner lives in our town too?”
Write a “Thank You” Note – Another old school tactic, but you can always find a pen, a piece of paper, and an envelop with a stamp and write them a note. I bet it will make their day!
Co-Market Your Brands – One of the move innovative ways of supporting small business owners is to co-market your brands. You could do an interview with the owner and post it to social media. You could sponsor a fundraiser together. You could come up with other fun ways to be visible to each other’s audiences.
Plan Fun Events Together – If you’ve got an event, check in with your favorite local restaurant and see if they do catering. Then, marketing the event together. This helps your business and theirs at the same time.
