I started my professional career in the banking industry in 2007. From 2007 to 2013 I helped small businesses with finance, banking, credit building, and building purchases. Then, I went on to work in small business accounting and fell in love with the inner workings of building businesses. In 2015, I transitioned into more management consulting as an associate consultant with IA Business Advisors. This role helped me expand my knowledge base and pick up a tremendous amount of hands on experience working all different types of businesses in a variety of capacities. It wasn’t until this role that I realized all the ups and downs that business owners weather to build their business. There is almost always failure of some type, something that goes awry, or an unforeseen obstacle that must be overcome to achieve success in business.
This is when I first started thinking about the similarities of what business owners go through and what sail boats go through on their voyages. There’s a lot of relatable imagery between the storms that business owners face and weather. I also think that’s a lot of importance for business owners to feel confident working with a business consulting company that has weathered their own storms and is willing to go through the business voyage with their clients.
It’s from this realization that I decided the nautical theme would be perfect. But. Not a perfect sailboat, with pristine sails. No. Most business owners know that it takes courage to make the business work. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. It’s hard work. There’s lots of risks. And they’re willing to take their lumps, weather the storms, and build their dream business.
I also learned the value of having a trusted advisor who can give objective, unemotional, sound, strategic advice to help a business owner accomplish their goals. The similarities to going on a trip were obvious. Not just any trip; a voyage. It’s going to be something special. And. It should be planned out; strategic. Thus, the name Strategic Voyages was decided upon.
