As I begin most years, I read a ton of articles about the latest trends in a new year. Who’s focused on what. Why is so and so going to invest in X. And then I came across an interesting read in Forbes.
This article in Forbes talks about the 16 tips that business owners need to put on their to do lists in 2019. It’s shocking to me that these items aren’t already on a to do list, but yes, they should be in 2019. As I continued to ponder the list, I really thought about how to make it way easier for business owners than 16 things… That seems like a lot to remember.
Did you know?? Many of the tips are already discussed in my book, Taboo Business Questions, as I think they need to be incorporated into a leader’s everyday life. It shouldn’t just be thought of around the first part of the year.
Now, items 2-16 on their list are all great. In fact, this article really makes me feel good. However, most of these things would potentially distract a business owner from staying focused on his core business. It’s easy to spend a day or a few days strategizing on growth plans. However, what EVERY entrepreneur needs to do is number 1. Document And Map Out Your Goals!
It’s that easy. Take some time. Write them all down. Make a SMART Action plan and keep it handy so you can remember what you committed to doing.
Want to keep it really simple when running your business? Get back to the basics. That’s the second thing you should be thinking about in 2019. Many entrepreneurs fall into the trap of trying to do too many things and end up not doing a great job at them. Think about: What made you successful at the beginning of your business? What have you delegated to others and how is that going?
Be intentional. That’s the third thing. If you do nothing other than write out your goals, get back to the basics, and be intentional, you’ll have an amazing 2019. Being intentional means don’t be frivolous. Don’t throw away time and efforts without understanding the cost and rewards. Don’t invest in a marketing strategy or tactics without understanding how it fits into your bigger plans.
What are YOU focused on in 2019? What are some of your goals in 2019?
